James Messerschmidt: Existence

This project was inspired by a man I met while working on a news story in New York City. He told me he contracted AIDS before the cocktail. It was this simple phrase which meant so much more to so many people world wide. I would like to get to know some of the people who were faced with such a monumental life changing event and how they persevered.

The goal of this project is to create a book that will contain the experiences of each person around the time before 1986, before available treatment and attempt to bring the reader back to that time. It will include portraits of each person in an environment that best represents them.

Each person will receive a print for participating and some proceeds from book sales will go to charity.
